TRAINING GROUND

In 2005, I became a Guy Hanks & Marvin Miller Screenwriting Fellow. Later, as a WGA writer’s trainee on “Girlfriends” season six, I learned from some of the best TV writers in the business: Mara Brock Akil, Prentice Penny, Karin Gist, and Mark Alton Brown.

Since 2020, I’ve acquired experienced mentors, who have helped me learn more about the kids’ TV landscape and hone my live action and animation writing skills. I’ve participated in mentorships organized by:

  • Women of Color Unite #StartWith8Hollywood

  • Children’s Media Association

  • Netflix Animation Foundations Program

PROVING GROUND

As a staff writer on “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne,” I worked my way up to story editor, while writing on the first 100 episodes of this NAACP award-winning comedy series. I also did some development work on the first season of “Tyler Perry’s Meet The Browns.

Currently, I’m a freelance writer working on “Crayola Crew” for Moonbug Entertainment.

higher GROUND

Growing up as a P.K. (preacher’s kid) ignited my passion for serving others through storytelling.  Watching my dad serve all kinds of people — felons, orphans, rabbis, drug addicts, burn victims, NFL players, civil rights leaders, and celebrities — sparked my compassion for others. Therefore, I know how important it is to love your neighbors and learn from them, regardless of their beliefs, lifestyle choices, or socio-economic statuses.

Life. Is. Hard! Now, I don’t know about you, but when life deals me a low blow, my faith compels me to take the high road and encourage others to do the same. My unique background of life lessons guides me in how I homeschool my sons, as well as how I craft characters and the imaginary world in which they live.

It’s no wonder why my brand of entertainment features BIPOC long shots, who smash stereotypes and improve their world. With me as your writer, you’re guaranteed to get character-driven stories grounded in family values and comedy, because laughter is good medicine for the soul!
